Guided by the collective aesthetics of urban areas, the Light up my City series observes the visual aspects of community neighbourhoods, notably by the repetition of specific lighting boxes. These signs seem to define the visual identity of the artist’s hometown, which is in the midst of wholescale cultural and economic expansion. The clustered and seemingly random urban plan dedicated to gaming and betting locales is fascinating. Positioned in strategic and visible places in multiple areas of the urban space, they seem to redefine values and lifestyle. And because they are present among banks and pharmacies they are legitimised in the collective mentality. We are witnessing the visual cohabitation of the financial, medical and entertainment symbol that define our current societal values and needs. Dappling the city, they inject a strong pulse into the nightlife of the neighbourhood, creating a new urban skyline.
